Adding a Folder
- Browse to the area of your site where you would like to put the new folder.
- From the black bar, click Add new and then click Folder.
- When the form opens, enter the Title, which should be upper and lower case. Example: My Favorite Things
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.
Understand that when you save, you are now inside that folder and able to add content there. In almost every case, you should create a page that you will assign as the landing page. It's important to understand this, because as the editor and content contributor, you know you have two objects: the folder and the landing page. For the viewer of your content, they will only understand that they clicked on some form of navigational link (folder), and they see content (page).
Adding a Page
If you just created the folder, you are in the correct spot to add the new landing page.
- From the black bar, click Add new and then click Page.
- When the form opens, enter the Title, which should be the same as the folder title. Example: My Favorite Things. Naming the page and folder the same thing prevents confusion for the viewer. If they click navigation that says My Favorite Things, and they see a page that's titled something completely different, they might think they didn't get the content they were looking for.
- Enter a one or two sentence description of the page.
- Add your page content.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save. Be sure to review the page to make sure the content is correct and that there are no misspellings.
Now you are ready to make the page a landing page by linking the page to the folder.
Creating a Landing Page
Now that you've created a folder and page, you need to link them together. You, as the editor, understand they're two different objects that you are linking together, and in doing so, a viewer will only think it's one, seamless object.
- In the black bar, click Contents.
- In the black bar, click Display.
- From the list, choose Choose content item as default view...
- Choose your page and save.
- Notice that the page now has a red * next to it in the contents. That denotes a landing page.
Please do not ever, at any time, click anything else from Display. This will change the layout of your folder/page, and you might not be able to change it back by yourself.
Publishing the Folder and the Page
Publishing a new folder and its contents can be done all at once rather than just one item at a time.
- Navigate to the main folder of the section you're in. The quickest way to do this is to click Contents from the black bar. Then, in the breadcrumbs at the very top of the contents table, click the link directly to the left of your folder title. IE: Home > Everybody's Favorites > My Favorite Things, you'd click Everybody's Favorites.
- Scroll to the folder you want to publish.
- Check the box next to it.
- From the toolbar that runs above the table, choose State. A form will drop down.
- Under Change State, choose Publish from the drop down.
- Check Include Contained Items.
- Click Apply.
The combined folder and it's assigned landing page are now linked and available to the public.
